Walter Estes Harrison, 71, of Moultrie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Archbold Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at First Methodist Church of Moultrie on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 4:00 pm with Reverend Tony Crosby officiating. A private interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born on March 7, 1955, in Florence, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. Walter Estes Harrison, Jr. and Phyllis Martin Harrison. Mr. Harrison devoted 34 years of his life to teaching in the Colquitt County School System, where he became a well-loved teacher and a favorite to many of his students. He had a special way of connecting with others and made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of being in his classroom. In addition to his years in the public school system, he shared his passion for learning while teaching at Brewton-Parker College, Southern Regional Technical College, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He had a deep love for history and politics, subjects he truly enjoyed discussing and bringing to life for those around him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Harrison; mother-in-law, Ethel Claire Spooner, and brother-in-law, Chris Blanchard.
Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Sandra Spooner Harrison; sons, Justin and wife Courtney, John Michael and wife Bonnie, and Jim and wife Laura all of Moultrie; grandchildren, John Parker, Powell, Maverick, Amelia, Stella, Lincoln, Teddy, James, and Owen; brother, Michael Harrison of Moultrie; sister, Elizabeth Blanchard of Statesboro; father-in-law, Johnny Spooner of Moultrie.
Arrangements entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
