Thayne Wesley Mellick, 91, of Moultrie, Georgia, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in the Chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Mr. Joseph Brown and Mr. Ryan Dawson officiating. Interment will follow at Big Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery with Lee Barwick, Keith Barnes, Darrell King, Michael Barwick, Wesley Barnes, and Daniel King serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Born on October 11, 1934, in LaCrosse, Kansas, he was the son of the late Nima Schwindt and Noel Mellick. Mr. Mellick, a man of remarkable talent, devotion, and curiosity, passed away leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship, faith, and history. Born with a passion for building and creating, Mr. Mellick was the owner of Mellick Printing in Kansas and later worked as a building contractor, a profession through which he served his community with skill and dedication. His love of flight led him to become a pilot, embodying both adventure and precision.
A true artisan at heart, he was a collector of miniature statues and devoted countless hours to crafting a replica of the famed Russian Amber Room. His meticulous recreations reflected not only his patience but also his deep appreciation for history and architecture. Mr. Mellick was also a layman for his church, where his faith guided his service and devotion. Known as a historian, he preserved stories and knowledge that enriched those around him. Above all, he was deeply committed to his church, where his devotion defined his life’s purpose. He will be remembered as a man who built not only structures and art but also a foundation of faith and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the history he preserved, and the devotion he exemplified. Mr. Mellick was also a layman for his church, where his faith guided his service and devotion. Known as a historian, he preserved stories and knowledge that enriched those around him. Above all, he was deeply committed to his church, where his devotion defined his life’s purpose.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jane Trencamp Mellick; son, Daniel Wesley Mellick; and sisters, Noma Reeves and Marcine Durrant.
Mr. Mellick is survived by his daughters, Melanie Barwick and husband Lee of Boston, Valerie Gay Mellick Barnes and husband Kieth of Coolidge and Susan Lynn Mellick King and husband Darrell of Coolidge; grandchildren, Michael Barwick and wife Melinda, Wesley Keith Barnes and wife Jaque, Cheŕee June Goff and husband Chad, Katherine Clay and husband Chris, and Daniel King and fiancée Cheri; great-grandchildren, Logan Barwich, Turner Barwick, Conner Goff, Chloe Goff, Brett Lewis, Leelen Clay, and Ellie Clay; and the mother of his children, Elnetta June Harrell.
