Steve Smith

Steve Austin Smith, 69, of Sylvester, died Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Wilson Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held on November 7, 2026, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Jones officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born on August 13, 1957, in Bellevillle, Illinois, he was the son of the late Hilliard Staten Smith and Juanita Gregory Wright.

Mr. Smith worked in the shipping department at Walmart, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly personality. He was a man who never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially taking fishing trips to Florida, where he could relax and enjoy one of his favorite pastimes. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Mr. Smith had a true servant's heart and believed in helping others whenever he could. He generously gave his time to assist the local food bank in providing meals to those in need. His compassion and willingness to help others were a reflection of the kind of man he was.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his niece, Rhonda Smith.

He is survived by his brother, Billy Smith and wife Debbie of Moultrie; his sister, Dorothy J. Weaver and husband Van of Moultrie; nieces Stacey Reyes and husband Jeff, Melissa Pantone and husband Tommy, and Hope Dickinson and husband Jud; nephews, Dean Cammack and wife Tiffany, Matt Cammack and wife Daphne, and Joey Smith; multiple great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Kathy and Roger White and Allen Boyette.
