Ronald Norman Goldstein, 90, passed away peacefully at home. Born March 7, 1935, in Austin, Texas, to Morris and Sarah Goldstein, “Ronnie,” as he was affectionately known by family and friends, enjoyed an active and spirited childhood that included running multiple paper routes on his bicycle, playing basketball, and stocking shelves at the family business, Travis Furniture Company.
A strong student throughout grade school, Ronnie demonstrated a natural proficiency in math. After graduating from Austin High School in 1953, he earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin. Following graduation, he served two years of active duty in the United States Army. Stationed in Heilbronn, Germany, Private First Class Ronnie Goldstein applied his accounting skills on the unit’s finance team, where he was responsible for managing weekly wage distribution to soldiers, maintaining budgets, and processing payments. He later served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserves for four additional years at Camp Mabry in Austin.
Ronnie began his professional career with the accounting firm Wade, Barton and Marsh. During this time, he met his future wife, Sandra (Sandy), a student at The University of Texas. Their courtship quickly blossomed—from a fraternity pin commitment to an engagement—and they were married in August, 1962. This year would have marked their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Professionally, Ronnie went on to work in the accounting department at Texas Quarries before becoming Chief Financial Officer of the Travis County Medical Society. Retirement allowed him more time to enjoy tennis, travel, visits with his grandchildren, and his passion for collecting original artwork.
Ronnie was an active member of his congregation in Austin, and later in Valdosta, Georgia. He was a longtime holiday volunteer at Seton Hospital in Austin, generously giving his time so that hospital staff could spend holidays with their families. After moving to Moultrie, he continued his community involvement by serving on Colquitt Regional’s Patient Satisfaction Committee.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra (Sandy), daughter Cheryl and her husband Kirk, son Craig and his wife Elise, and six cherished grandchildren, Hanna, Lauren, and David Friedlander, and Arianna, Drew, and Maraya Goldstein.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to Ronnie’s devoted caregivers: Robin, Carol, Ellen, Pumpkin, Amichiko, Brenda and Rita. Special thanks to Colquitt Regional Hospice nurse, Ashley, and the entire hospice team for their exceptional care and compassion. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to the staff of Baker Funeral Home for their guidance and support.
Burial service was held at The Friedlander Family Gardens.
