Nona Denise Mercer Brooks

Nona Denise Mercer Brooks, 71, of Omega, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
A graveside service will be held at Paulk’s Chapel in Scooterville on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Voyles officiating. Jason Brooks, Jamie Mercer, Scott Roberts, Craig Patterson, Jason Hartsfield, and Shane Roberts will serve as pallbearers.
Denise was born on December 10, 1951, in Norman Park, GA; she was the daughter of the late Reverend J.B. Mercer and Ola Maud Dodd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Tammy Mercer, Debbie Mercer Roberts, and Cheryl Mercer Sinclair; father-in-law, Thomas Everett Brooks; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lynette Brooks and sister-in-law Betty Brooks.

She graduated from Norman Park High School in 1971 and married the love of her life, Jerry Randall Brooks, on April 16, 1971. Survivors include her daughter Rhonda Brooks Goolsby and husband Brian from Dawson, her son Chris Brooks and wife Mandy of Tifton. She was known by “Ma" by six grandchildren, Jerrod Goolsby and wife Morgan, Hartley Goolsby, Austin Goolsby, and Ashton Banks, all of Dawson, Kennedy Brooks, Carter Brooks and Graydon Brooks, all of Tifton, and one great-grandson, Gentry Goolsby of Dawson. One brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Pat Mercer of Cool Springs, Danny Thomas of Cool Springs, Tommy and Peggy Brooks of Sumner, Kenneth and Patricia Brooks of Sumner, Jimmy and Sharon Brooks Patterson of Scooterville, Darrell and Kathy Waters of Moorehead City, North Carolina, and Ned and Diane Brooks of Scooterville.
Denise began her relationship with Christ and was baptized at an early age. Her life was her testimony of the love that she had for Jesus, and it overflowed into her family and everyone she met. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved sharing her gift with others. She was also a valuable partner of Brooks Farms, as she kept the daily operations for many years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She always had a sweet, gentle, and patient disposition. Her laugh was contagious, and she enjoyed being with her family, sharing stories, and singing. She enjoyed the Smoky Mountains with her family when the children were young, and she and Jerry continued the family tradition for many years. These are treasured memories.
“A wife, mother, and grandparent never to be forgotten, for the memories, she leaves to her family are built upon the ages of her life. Those memories will enter one’s mind and will become the beauty of her life to hold, and in these memories, the kindness of her heart shines as if upon the wings of angels. As one memory may reflect upon the minds of family, yet another just takes place, for the memories of her are beautiful, never ever forgotten.” Love Jerry

The family would like to thank her caregivers and Sandra Royals for their continued love of Denise over the years. As well as the Hospice of Tiftarea for their love and support.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home in Moultrie.
