Merita P. Key

Merita Faye Powell Key, 84, of Norman Park, sadly left us on October 23, 2022, while at home with her family.
She was born February 13, 1938, in Sigsbee, Georgia, to Eddie and Mae Powell. Merita attended Coolidge High School. She graduated as valedictorian and, according to her, was a basketball star. She then attended Norman College and met her “Hunk” Doyle Key. Merita went on to work with Southwest Georgia Bank where she retired after 33 years. Merita was a founding member of Southside Baptist Church and particularly enjoyed singing in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Carroll Powell, Eugene Powell, Grady Powell, Ray Powell, Frank Powell, Eddie Mae Revells, Lanelle Rehburg, and Hazel Jordan.
Mrs. Merita is survived by her husband, Doyle Key; her sons, Rhys Key and his wife Diane, and Greg Key and his wife Sheila; her four grand-children Travis Key and his wife Brooklyn, Magen Wright and husband Donavon, Dillon Key, and Dalton Key; and her great grand-children Auri Wright, Abram Key, Anduin Wright, Titus Key, and Amarie Wright. her sister Carolyn Andrews; a very special niece Janice Revells
A funeral service will be held at Baker Funeral Home at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 25th with Rev. Michael Baer and Rev. Rhys Key officiating. She will be laid to rest at Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
