Medford Leo "Shorty" Peterman, 96, of Moultrie, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Hopewell Baptist Church with Reverend Julian Griner officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Jason Connell, Chris Bryant, Greg Connell, Brandon Connell, Scott Connell, and Michael Connell will all serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Morgan, John Phillips, and Chad Eunice.
Visitation will be held in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Mr. Peterman was born to the late Joseph Ulmer Peterman and Jennie Weaver Peterman on April 4, 1928, in Mitchell County, Georgia. A skilled millwright by trade, Medford spent decades perfecting his craft. He was known for his unwavering dedication, meticulous attention to detail, and relentless work ethic, which earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends. Medford served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy. His sense of duty and patriotism was evident in every aspect of his life, and he often shared stories of his time in service with pride. For over 70 years, Medford was a proud and active member of the Masonic Lodge. His commitment to the principles of the brotherhood—charity, integrity, and brotherly love—was reflected in his everyday actions. He was a guiding light and mentor to many young members, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer wise counsel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, June Peterman, Carol Peterman and Frances Connell Peterman; daughter, Sandra Kovacs; brothers, Clyde Peterman, Ralph Peterman, Nathan Peterman, and Felton Peterman; and sister, Mildred Peterman.
Mr. Peterman is survived by his son, Alan Peterman and wife Helen of Erin, Tennessee; daughter, Pamela Henry of Lincoln Park, Michigan; grandchildren, Kelly, Tracy, and Jason; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, and Joseph; step-children, Teresa Fortner, Linda Fortner, Sammy Connell, Shelley (Patricia) Connell, Dan Connell, Lucy Phillips, Christie Morgan, Willie (Wanda) Connell, Carline Bryant, Robert (Delma) Connell, Joey (Tammy) Connell; loving, devoted, caregiver, Lisa Sneed of Moultrie; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
