Mavis Ann Herndon Murphy, 82, of Quitman, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Presbyterian Home of Quitman.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Wesley Chapel Church with Reverend Thomas Parrish officiating. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery. Carson Murphy, Landon Murphy, Pete Herndon, Paul Herndon, John Melvin Herndon, and Tracy Gay will serve as pallbearers. Lewis Herndon will serve as an Honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
Born on January 3, 1943, in Moultrie, she was the daughter of the late Paul John Herndon and Erma Dees Herndon. Mrs. Murphy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be remembered for her kind heart and wonderful talents. Known for her delicious home-cooked meals, she took great joy in preparing food that brought her family together around the table. A gifted seamstress, Mavis created many beautiful garments and cherished the joy her craft brought to others.
She loved shopping at Belk Hudson, where she was known to find just the right outfit or fabric for her next project. Above all, Mavis adored her family and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Mrs. Murphy was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel Church, where her faith and gentle spirit touched many. Her love, laughter, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Rentz Murphy, Sr., and brother, Paul Maxwell Herndon, Sr.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Murphy, Jr. of Hahira, and Keith Murphy and wife Farrah of Valdosta; grandchildren, Stephanie Sasso and husband Dominick of Pensacola, Florida, Charlie and Kellee Murphy of Moultrie, Carson Murphy and Landon Murphy of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Skylar Anne Mordecai of Pensacola, Florida, and Payson Rentz Murphy of Moultrie.
Arrangements entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
