Martha Leota Lewis Cooper

Martha Leota Lewis Cooper, 86, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Westview Cemetery with Reverend Julian Griner and Ms. Hannah Bass officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born on March 19, 1939, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. Lewis and Clifford Lynch Lewis. Martha Leota was a graduate of Moultrie High School, class of 1957. She attended the University of Georgia, where she majored in Art History. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. She was always loyal to the Georgia Bulldogs. Early in her life, she worked as a certified medical record technician at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and later at Athens General Hospital in Athens, Georgia. Her passion was decorating, interior design, and gardening. She married Wayne Cooper almost 65 years ago and enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a great sense of humor and loved to share time with her family and friends. She was a former member of the Moultrie Service League and Federated Guild. She was a lifelong Methodist and worked in several areas of the Moultrie church over the years. Her greatest happiness came from her children and her three grandsons, whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Leota Cooper Gursky; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Lewis; and brother, Thomas E Lewis.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Charles Wayne Cooper; son, Charles Wayne Cooper, Jr.; grandchildren, Alexander Michael Gursky, Charles Wayne Cooper, III., and Harrison Wright Cooper; sister-in-law, Elaine E. Lewis; niece, Laura Lewis Madison; and nephew, Colonel Thomas E. Lewis, Jr.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home & Crematory.
