Linda Tucker Hiers, 84, of Moultrie passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Baker Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
Born October 21, 1941, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late AC and Thelma Tucker, Linda’s life was full of creative and artistic pursuits in addition to teaching her six children and numerous piano students. Linda and her husband, Mitchell, had recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
A talented vocalist and pianist, Linda studied voice for a time under Miklos Bencze at the George Wallace Community College in Dothan where she played leading roles in productions of Camelot and Guys and Dolls. After returning to Moultrie, Linda and Mitchell helped found the Moultrie Little Theater and were part of its early productions.
Linda homeschooled long before it became trendy, ensuring that all six of her children were reading well before starting formal school. In the 1980s, she expanded her teaching beyond the family by sharing her love of music with dozens of piano students.
In addition to music, Linda’s creative pursuits included painting, sewing, photography, quilting, and a flower garden that drew motorists from around town after a feature in the Moultrie Observer. Of course, her children were often pressed into service as models or manual labor depending on the pursuit.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Charlotte Fain, and her sons Eric Hiers and Kyle Hiers.
Linda is survived by her husband, E. Mitchell Hiers Jr of Moultrie, her children Mitch Hiers, Stephanie Hiers Chitty and husband Brent, Brendan Hiers and wife Karen, and Nathaniel Hiers as well as 13 grandchildren and a continually growing number of great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
