Born on August 3, 1942, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Little Berry “L.B.” Nevels and Lucille O’Neal Beverly. Mrs. Linda Carnes was a faithful and devoted member of Kingwood Baptist Church, where her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life. She loved Jesus with all her heart and pursued Him with everything she had. Her faith was not something she simply spoke about; it was something she lived each and every day. Whenever she had the opportunity, she pointed others to Jesus, always wanting those around her to know the same love, grace, and hope she had found in Him. She prayed for her family, encouraged them, loved them, and continually reminded them of what mattered most. Her greatest desire was that her family and everyone she encountered would know Jesus and follow Him.
Known lovingly as “Mama” and “Meme,” Mrs. Carnes treasured her family beyond measure. She was blessed with her children, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She adored her family and loved them with a deep and unconditional love that could only come from the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first spouse of 34 years, Curtis Carnes; son, Jeffrey Wade Carnes; and sister, Annette Selph.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hamilton; daughter, Leah Carnes Sloan and husband Lavon of Moultrie; grandchildren, Blake Gay (Katie), Brandon Gay (Kendra), Beau Gay, Carrie Sellers (Johnathon), Courtney Harrison (Justin), Jeffrey Carnes, and Shellie Harrison (Justin); eleven great grandchildren with her twelfth due to arrive in November; one great-great grandchild; her brother, Dexter Nevels (Shirley); her special friend, Laverne Norman and her loving caregiver Cray Brooks.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of Colquitt Regional Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Mrs. Carnes and her family during her final days. Their loving support and dedication will always be deeply appreciated and remembered.
