Lawrence Joseph Bourgeois

Lawrence Joseph Bourgeois, 79, of Moultrie, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Colquitt Senior Care, surrounded by his family.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born on November 20, 1945, in Belleville, Illinois, to the late Raymond Joseph Bourgeois and Elma Christine Bourgeois. Lawrence proudly served in the United States Navy, making invaluable contributions to his country. His service aboard the USS Oriskany during its courageous efforts after the devastating fire at sea in October 1966 earned him a Letter of Commendation, a testament to his bravery, dedication, and commitment to his fellow sailors. After his honorable service, Lawrence returned to his civilian life, but his love for service and the camaraderie of his fellow veterans remained a cornerstone of his character. He was deeply passionate about fishing, a hobby he enjoyed for many years. His serene moments on the water were just as cherished as the memories spent with family. He treasured time with his loved ones, creating lasting memories and bonding over the simple joys of life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick Bourgeois and Robert Bourgeois.

Survived by his wife, Jean Fillyaw Bourgeois of Moultrie; daughter, Melondy Resnick and husband Adam of Surf City, North Carolina; son, Brian Bourgeois and wife Angie of Norman Park; grandchildren, Caleb Messer of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Zachary Messer of Richlands, North Carolina, Kenleigh Bourgeois of Tifton, and Emilee Bourgeois of Tifton; great grandchildren, Kayce Messer and Faye Taylor Messer both from Richlands, North Carolina; sisters, Yvette Bourgeois Sutter, Yvonne Bourgeois Jones both from Arizona and Kathy Bourgeois Erickson of California.

Arrangements entrusted to Baker Funeral Home and Crematory.
