Kenneth Dean "Kenny" Hamner

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Dean Hamner (Kenny), a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who left this world on July 4, 2025, at Pruitt Health Magnolia Manor. Kenny was born on January 17, 1945, in Tifton, Georgia.

Kenny and his family ran Hamner’s Grocery until its closure in the early 1990’s. He also served as a bus driver at Norman Park Elementary School, where he will always be remembered as Mr. Kenny Bus # 21. His last employment before retiring was at the Norman Baptist Assembly in Norman Park as a groundskeeper, where he took pride in maintaining the grounds for the enjoyment of all who visited.

Those who knew Kenny will fondly remember his perfectly coiffed hair and the comb he carried to ensure that not a single strand was out of place. He also had a unique hobby of collecting rattlesnakes for Whigham’s Rattlesnake Round-up. Many in the community will remember his snake box at Hamner’s Grocery along with the stuffed, curled rattlesnake that sat in the back of the store.

Kenny was the son of Jocie Lovett Hamner and Carlton Dean Hamner. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bud Brogdon and Mike Hamner, and his sister Nell Copeland;and son in law Steve Sellers He is survived by one sister, Linda Meders of Omega; two daughters, Jennifer Merritt and her husband Darin, Stephanie Sellers and Donald Mercer; one son, Dean Hamner and his wife Haley.
