Jimmy Wayne Knight, 74, of Moultrie, passed away on, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Mr. Billy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born on March 28, 1950, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late C.J. Knight and Myrtice Griffin Knight. Born with a strong sense of duty and service, Jimmy proudly served in the United States Army. His time in the military shaped his character, instilling in him values of integrity, discipline, and perseverance—principles he carried with him throughout his life.

Following his service, Jimmy pursued his passion for cars and opened KNICO Engines, an automotive machine shop that quickly became a cornerstone of the community. Through hard work and dedication, he earned a reputation as a skilled mechanic and an honest businessman. His customers trusted him not only for his expertise but for his kind and genuine nature.

In the mid-1970s, Jimmy found a new thrill—racing. His competitive spirit on the track earned him the nickname "Diamond Jim," and he was respected by fellow racers and fans alike. His race car, fittingly named "KNIGHT TIME", was a fixture on the track. Whether racing or running his business, he was a man of precision and dedication. Jimmy had a special love for his vehicles, especially his trucks and cars. He took great pride in keeping them immaculate, often washing them several times a week. His attention to detail and love for all things automotive was a hallmark of his personality. His days often began at Chick-fil-A, where he cherished gathering with friends around breakfast, enjoying conversation and camaraderie. These simple moments brought him great joy, as did the deep bonds he shared with his family.

Above all else, Jimmy was a family man. He cherished his time with his loved ones, especially his beloved granddaughter, Madeline, who held a special place in his heart. He found immense joy in watching her grow and was her biggest fan, never missing her softball games and tournaments. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, John Chadwick Knight; his brother, Bobby Gene Knight; and his sister, Shirley Knight Brinson.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Joann Gay Knight of Moultrie; son, Chase Knight and wife Tessa of Valdosta; granddaughter, Madeline Knight of Valdosta; brother, Ronnie Knight and wife Gail of Moultrie; niece and nephew, Michelle Winn of Tifton and Clint Knight of Bellville, OH; cousins, Randy Knight and Jabo Knight.
