Jacqueline Liles Roberts

Jacqueline Liles Roberts was born on April 4, 1933 in Effingham, County Georgia. The third of four children to parents Vester Liles and Myrtle Walden Liles, she lived most of her life in Berlin, Georgia. In 2017 she moved to assisted living in Carrollton, Georgia near her daughter. At the time of her death she lived with her daughter and family in Carrollton.
She is predeceased by her husband, Francis Wilkerson Roberts, her siblings, Billy Vester Liles, Sarah Onafae Furney, and William Travis Liles and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Faith Roberts Patton, son-in-law Rev. Larry Patton and grandchildren, Annabel, Micah and Eleanor Patton. She is also survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews and their families. She was considered "Aunt Jack" or "Granny Jack" to many young people who were related by love, if not blood. She would say she had many honorary children and grandchildren.
At the age of 19, she began the fulfillment of her life's dream of becoming a school teacher. She taught for many years, retiring from Odom Elementary School. In the intervening years, she returned to school to study Library Science and opened the first community library in Berlin, where she worked until she returned to teaching full-time.
For most of her life she was an active member of Berlin Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for all ages, led VBS and sang in the Choir. She and her husband derived special joy from hosting the young people for Sunday night fellowship, supper, ping pong and volleyball.
In later years, she was a member of Moultrie First Baptist Church and served in a variety of volunteer roles as well as singing in the choir. She participated in many mission trips with youth groups as well as hosting the youth for Disciple Now. She was an avid volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief. Her land donation provided the property for Colquitt County Habitat for Humanity to build 12 homes.
Her hobbies included cooking, needlework, handcrafts and flower gardening. She enjoyed making crochet baby blankets, beaded Christmas bells, and sharing her flowers with fellow gardeners. She cooked innumerable meals for others. She especially loved blessing her pastors with their favorite sweets.
Her life was defined by her faith in God expressed through love for family, church, and
community.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 Wednesday, February 28 at Moultrie First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and family from 12:30-2:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Southwest Georgia Red Cross, Georgia
