Grady Asbell, 94, of Moultrie, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Baker Funeral Home in Moultrie, Georgia, with Reverend Marlon Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Chris Phillips, Carson Asbell, Kendall Sloan, Jackson Sloan, Brayden Lewis, Logan Ponder, Lance Ponder, and Justin McCook will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Baker Funeral Home.
Born on August 12, 1931, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Elijah Asbell and Lillie Mae Crosby Asbell.
Mr. Asbell served in the United States Army as a Personnel Specialist, receiving a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation of Austria Medal. After an Honorable discharge from the military, he worked at the Albany Marine Base for about two years. Then from there, he worked as a postal carrier and retired after 37 years of service.
Grady had a love for baseball. He spent many Sunday afternoons playing cow pattie baseball with neighborhood friends. That love passed on to his son and his grandchildren. Throughout his lifetime, he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and was on the Baptist Association Board. He was an active member of Kingwood Baptist Church.
Grady leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia Jordan Asbell, and their three children; Cindy Phillips (James), Brett Asbell (Deana), and Sally O’Hearn (Troy); grandchildren, Chris Phillips (Kaylynn), Amber Phillips (Christy), Felicia Ponder, Carson Asbell (Sugeili), Alanna McCook (Justin), Kendall Sloan (Heather), and Chelsey Sloan; great-grandchildren, Logan Ponder, Lance Ponder, Brayden Lewis, Skyleigh Lawson, Jackson Sloan, Lane Hutto, Landon Hutto, Luke Hutto, Calleigh McCook, Brantley McCook, Gracie Marrero, Cadance Phillips, Alyvia Phillips, Khloe Phillips, and Madison Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kingwood Baptist Church building fund or a favorite charity.
