George "Bub" Edward Whitfield

George (Bub) Edward Whitfield, Jr. (88), of Sigsbee, Georgia died peacefully in the same corner of the Whitfield farmhouse where he was born. 

Bub was a noted raconteur (a skilled storyteller) and a philosopher. He loved life and found joy and contentment in simple pleasures, acts of kindness, and entertaining others. He had deep roots in South Georgia and agriculture. He lived on the family farm near Sigsbee and spent his entire life there nurturing plants, animals, and the land. One of his greatest skills was his simple way of developing relationships with people. He was a remarkable mentor to many young people and had lifelong friendships with those in the community. 

Bub is survived by his love, Mary McEver Whitfield. Their marriage was a successful partnership. They have three children, Audrey, Ed, and Anna. He was a devoted Papa to Laurel, Alton, Sophie, George, and Ellie. He is survived by his sister JoAn. George was the middle child of the late Mary Lizzie Underwood Whitfield and George Edmund Whitfield, Sr. 

He was preceded in death by his sister Frances and infant brother Bobby. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11 am, at Funston Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose of Sharon Church Cemetery. The service will also be live-streamed on the Funston Baptist Church YouTube channel starting at 11 am.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 6 pm until 8 pm, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
