Dorothy Quarles Weaver, born April 18, 1933, passed away on December 31, 2025, at A. G. Rhodes Cobb in Marietta, Ga. She resided in Marietta, Ga. for the last 15 years. She lived in Moultrie, Ga., for years and then moved to Norman Park, Ga., two years after marrying. She was devoted to her late husband and love of her life, James R. Weaver. Dorothy wore many hats at Norman Park School for three decades, including secretary to the principal, later coming back to be assistant librarian and teaching assistant for Chapter 1 math classes. Dorothy also worked for Riverside Manufacturing in data analysis in Moultrie for ten years. Many people may not know that Dorothy’s analytical and math skills are what provided the catalyst for her to be the accountant for all family businesses, including Spring Creek Dairy and Spring Creek Hog Farm. She worked tirelessly to support her husband and family in every way possible.
She is survived by three children: Ken Weaver (Kalea), Ben Weaver (Sandra), and Jo Beth Weaver (Dottie Saye).
She leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Jason Weaver (Kimberly), Michael Weaver, Tom Weaver (Kayla), Alison Weaver Dykes (Wes), Mary Sue Weaver Thompson (Justin), and Melissa Weaver Joy (Brandon). She also leaves ten great-grandchildren: Brock Weaver, Parker Weaver, Claire Slocumb, Brady Weaver, Wyatt Thompson, Caroline Joy, Libba Dykes, Taylor Mae Thompson, Hank Dykes, and Chandler Joy.
She is preceded in death by her brother, John Day Quarles Jr., her cousins, Virginia Taylor & Gene Murphy, and her parents, John Day Quarles Sr. and Elizabeth Fletcher Quarles.
Dorothy was a founding member of Southside Baptist Church in Norman Park, GA, where she took on every possible role, making sure the needs of the church and members were met. She supported her husband, James, in his role as chairman of the deacons by hosting deacons and wives for dinners and meetings, along with setting up communion. She loved her Sunday School class, WMU ladies’ group, and involvement with vacation bible school. If the church door was open, Dorothy and James were there. Her faith in her Lord was solid, and she lived her faith, setting a positive example to others. Love was at the center of all she thought and did. Her favorite hymn was “Love is the Theme” from the Baptist hymnal. As a child and teenager, she was a member of Moultrie First Baptist, and after marrying, she was a long-time member of Norman Park First Baptist, where she had very fond memories of family and friends.
She was a very modest and humble person, even though she grew up in Moultrie, her roots prepared her for many opportunities. She made all A’s and took the hardest classes, finishing 4 years of French and Latin. She was the yearbook editor. Dorothy was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her peers and teachers for the Moultrie High School class of 1950. She was awarded a full scholarship to Piedmont University in Atlanta for their Nursing School. She was headed that way until James Weaver gave her his great smile and asked her to marry him. He wanted to put a ring on her finger and encouraged her to go to nursing school. She said that she would go to nursing school without the ring or stay and marry him. The rest was history.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Southside Baptist Church in Norman Park, GA, with the Reverend Michael Baer officiating. Jason Weaver, Michael Weaver, Tom Weaver, Wes Dykes, Justin Thompson, and Brandon Joy will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Southside Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The internment will follow at Southside Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, Dorothy requested donations be made to Southside Baptist, 3634 US Highway 319, Norman Park, GA 31771, or to A.G. Rhodes Cobb (non-profit rehab, nursing, & memory care center) at www.agrhodes.org with a special request that donations be made to music therapy.
