Dewey Marvin Lastinger, 85, of Moultrie, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, his wish was for his family and friends to plant a tree in his memory—a lasting tribute to his life and the natural beauty he cherished. Mr. Lastinger will be laid to rest next to his wife at Murphy Cemetery.
Born on February 18, 1940, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Troy Elijah Lastinger and Mary Evelyn Buckner Lastinger. He was the proud owner of Lastinger Cycles and Lawn for 53 years, where he found great joy and fulfillment in his work. His dedication to his craft and the relationships he built through his business were a source of pride throughout his life. A lifelong music lover, his favorite song was "What a Wonderful World”—a reflection of the gratitude and wonder with which he lived each day. He was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Elaine Murphy Lastinger; and brother, Donnie Lastinger.
Mr. Lastinger is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Dawn Lastinger Johnson, and husband Gregg of Sunset, LA; brother, Huey Allen Lastinger of Cumming, GA; sisters, Alda Townsend of Gainesville, GA and Janice Godfrey Lastinger of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Brandon Tyler Johnson and wife Olivia of Cantonment, FL, and Garrett Taylor Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
