Born on October 10, 1945, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William J. Strange and Lillian Newton Strange. Born into a large and loving family as one of twelve children, Catherine learned early in life the values of hard work, compassion, and devotion to others. These qualities remained the foundation of her life and were evident in every relationship she cherished.

Catherine devoted the early years of her life to being a loving stay-at-home mother, pouring her time, energy, and heart into raising her children and creating a warm and nurturing home. Once her children were older, she entered the workforce and began a career with Riverside Manufacturing Company, where she worked as a customer service representative and switchboard operator. Following her retirement from Riverside, Catherine continued doing what she loved most—caring for and encouraging children—by serving as a substitute teacher at Sunset Elementary School with the Colquitt County Board of Education.

Known for her warm heart and nurturing spirit, Catherine never met a stranger. She loved keeping children and was a natural caregiver, not only to her family but also to countless others whose lives she touched. She devoted much of her life to caring for her siblings, offering support, encouragement, and unconditional love whenever it was needed.

Catherine was also known as a master shopper and true fashionista. She took pride in her appearance and was always dressed to perfection, with a style and elegance that reflected her vibrant personality. Whether attending church, spending time with family, or running errands around town, Catherine was always beautifully put together.

Her kitchen was often the heart of her home. She found great joy in cooking and baking for family and friends, creating meals and treats that brought people together and made everyone feel welcome.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Jennings Hiers; daughter, Gina Elkins; and siblings, Joseph Strange, William J. Strange, Jr., Fleta Strange, Edwin Strange, Donald Strange, Myra Galor, Francis Price, Nadine Buchanan, and Carroll Strange.

She is survived by her son, Kent Elkins of Moultrie; daughters, Amy Griffin and husband Ricky and Susan Corley and husband Doug, all of Moultrie; grandchildren, Megan Ford and husband Gates, Buster Elkins, Holly Johnson and husband Zane, Shianna Morgan and husband Cam, Nathan Corley and wife Chloe, and Landon Griffin; great-grandchildren, Madison Ford, Bowen Johnson, Brett Johnson, and Barrett Morgan; sister, Becky Strange Norman; and brother, Thomas Strange and wife Jannelle; and several nieces and nephews.
