Arthur "Art" Henry Ellis, Jr., 76, of Moultrie, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Brad Walker officiating with Reverend Hugh Ward providing the eulogy. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
Born on November 6, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Arthur Henry Ellis, Sr. and Vivian Virginia Savage Ellis. Arthur's passion for justice and dedication to serving his country led him to enlist in the United States Marines on April 18, 1966. Throughout his 14-year military career, Arthur exemplified courage and leadership, rising to the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge on June 2, 1980. Following his military service, Arthur pursued a career in law enforcement, where he made a profound impact both within the FBI and the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office. He served as an FBI Special Agent for 20 years, displaying unwavering commitment and earning the respect of his colleagues and superiors. After retiring from the FBI, Arthur spent 11 years with the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office as a deputy, further demonstrating his dedication to keeping his community safe. Arthur's commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional career. For over 50 years, he was an active member of the Moultrie Masonic Lodge #381, exemplifying the values of brotherhood, charity, and truth. His dedication to this ancient fraternity was evident in the positive impact he made within the community. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 45 years, Molly Morris Ellis. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Art also took tremendous pride in being a supportive and caring father to his two daughters, Gina Fountain and husband Mitchell and Samantha Crawford and husband Michael, all of Moultrie; his grandchildren, Bailee Fountain, Mary Madison Greene, Maggie Cox, Ella Crawford, Cale Crawford, and Maci Wilkes; and his siblings, Arthur Doug Ellis, James E. "Buddy" Ellis and wife Soraya, and George W. "Billy" Ellis; and his longtime FBI partner and friend, Bret Murray.
