Arther Jay Clayton, Sr., 74, passed away on May 18, 2025, in Tift County.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held at a later date in Hawaii.
He was born on May 31, 1950, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late Hugh Lester Clayton and Ollie Sandra Lamar Clayton. Born with an unwavering sense of duty and honor, Arther Jay Clayton, Sr., dedicated most of his life to serving his country. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps through three significant conflicts—Vietnam, Desert Storm, and the Second Gulf War—demonstrating exceptional bravery and leadership. Throughout his distinguished military career, he rose to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant, retiring in 1999 after decades of exemplary service.
Beyond the uniform, Mr. Clayton was a man of heart. He cherished every moment spent with his family, finding joy in the simple pleasures of togetherness. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments, his presence brought warmth and unity to those around him.
Arther Jay Clayton, Sr., will be remembered not only for his service to our nation but for the deep love he gave to his family and the values he instilled in all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the example he set.
He is survived by his wife, Tara Clayton; sons, Paul Clayton, Arther Clayton, Jr. and wife Lauwae, Jonathan Clayton and wife Leilani, and Zachary Lee Ho; daughters, Alexis Hancock and husband Ryan and Desiree Benton and husband Joshua; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Wesley Clayton and Franklin Clayton; sisters, Brenda Hopper and Ethel Vick.
